May IHSW

IHSW or International Hermit and Stitch Weekend always starts on the third Friday of the month.  It's a chance to lock yourself away and focus on your stitching for the weekend.  You can take part on your blog or via the Facebook page - IHSW on Facebook.

Once again I started the weekend off with my Alice in Wonderland SAL from Cross Stitcher magazine.  I had already stitched the Mad Hatter earlier in the week and just needed to backstitch him on Friday:

The Mad Hatter before and after backstitching

This fabric colour is more accurate

The whole piece so far, I added a little bit more border at the top:

stitched on 32 count yellow linen

Then I moved on to my Discworld Mappe and stitched the rest of the "Blowing Man" as Emily calls him:

Starting point on Friday morning:

Current progress:

stitched on custom-dyed 32 count Murano from Sparklies

The next IHSW will be 19th - 21st June so make sure you note the date in your diary or come and join us in the Facebook Group - IHSW on Facebook.  If you don't do Facebook then you can check in here by leaving a comment on my post.

That weekend also includes The Longest Day in the Northern Hemisphere.  This is when I usually do my Longest Day Marathon where I dedicate an entire day to stitching every single one of my WIPs.  That is simply not going to happen this year with my son at home all the time.  So I have decided to start as usual on the morning of the Longest Day (Saturday 20th June) and continue until I have stitched on every WIP.  Which will be sometime on Sunday.  It won't be quite the same, but nothing is right now!

Finally, Stitch Maynia has continued with my Just Nan-a-thon:

15th May - Owl Winder Pocket

16th May - Pansy Basket

17th May - Peacock Tapestry

Alice is a wonderful piece!

It's amazing what a difference backstitching can do to a project! Even if it's a pain in the butt sometimes, haha.

Jo: You have made lots of progress on the Mappe, I am loving the Blowing Man, so cool.
Great progress on all your designs.
I am not looking forward to June 21st it means the lite start to drop day by day and then back to short days outdoors.
Have a great day.

Your Alice in Wonderland is beautiful! And what a difference backstitching the Mad Hatter made! You're making good progress on your other progress, too.

The next IHSW I have some major plans so doubt I will get to participate. I will cheer you along though.

I really need to pay more attention to what is happening in the blog world. I am so out of touch these days! I used to LOVE IHSWs, never missed a one! I still hermit and stitch, I just do it alone now (although technically, we all do that, but still, you know what I mean!).

Nice progress on that fiddly part of Blowing Man, and the backstitch does make a nice difference. I hope you're enjoying the other Alice bits so far too. I wonder if I can make the Longest Day work with DD's help. Maybe she could pick out projects for me to work on? I have to work all weekend, so we'll see how it goes.

Alice is coming along great - plenty more boxes to fill! x

'Blowing Man' is coming along well. Are those his ribs I can see?
I like your idea for adapting The Longest Day SAL. I always enjoy your round up post and seeing some older WIPs resurface for 30 minutes of attention. Good luck trying to fit everything into the weekend. :)

Great work on the SAL, that's acute Hatter! And the Blowing Man is coming along nicely, even with all the skintones.
Looking forward to your 'longest weekend' SAL :) I think I'm going to pass this year, I seem to be so far behind on everything, I really can't afford any extra tours right now ;)

I always plan to do IHSW but find that I usually end up stitching less that weekend!. It's scary how many of your Just Nan projects I also have, even if I haven't stitched them yet.
