March TUSAL and my Stitching Library

It's TUSAL time!

Here is my TUSAL jar with my current projects:

The main project is my Hallowe'en at Hawk Run Hollow by Carriage House Samplings.  It's number was called for WIPGO this month so my aim is to complete a block.

I stitched the bit of flame, all the pumpkin and some of the owl so far.  I used a variegated Jodyri thread instead of the charted DMC for the pumpkin.  Because I am stitching over one the variegation is more subtle but it is visible enough to make it worth doing!

stitched over 1 on 25 count Cassia Rose evenweave from Chromatic Alchemy

Maybe you can see the variegation better in this one?  I stitched in vertical columns rather than horizontal rows to follow the shape of the pumpkin

The smaller project is the second mouse for my March of the Mischievious Mice.  You will see more of that one when I finish it.

What's on my Shelf?

This is a new feature I'm going to include on my TUSAL post until I run out of books!  I started a Page on my Happy Dance blog for my Stitching Library and realised what a huge task it was so decided to break it down to one book per month.  For the next four years...

The second book we are going to look at is one I've used a couple of times but want to stitch many more of the designs.  Especially the cover photo!

Title: Bewitching Cross Stitch
Author: Joan Elliott
Publisher: David and Charles
ISBN: 0715329278 or 9780715329276

This is a fabulous book ideal for lovers of Joan Elliott and fantasy designs alike.  I have stitched a couple from here.  Including this little owl most recently:

These are two words in a series of four.  I gave these two to teachers at my son's school as end of year gifts.

Most of the designs are larger but they include ideas for using extracts from them to make smaller projects too.  There is a wide variety of designs, from dragons to cute witches and Joan's signature faces (Father Sun and Mother Moon are both in this book).

🐇 Good Friday - Friday 2nd April 🐇

Finally, it's time to sign up for the Annual Easter Treasure Hunt.    If you would like to take part this year, just leave a comment here.  The week before Easter I will send you a letter of the alphabet which will form part of the mystery phrase.  On Good Friday you will post that letter along with a photo of something seasonal that you have stitched (could be Easter or Spring or just something cheerful and sunny or floral).  We all hop around like little bunnies to find the Mystery Phrase!

Here's a link to last year's hop so you can see how it all works - Easter Treasure Hunt Blog Hop 2020

I love the idea of What’s on my shelf? I wonder how many books we will have that are the same. I also have this Joan Elliott book. I love looking at the pictures for inspiration, unfortunately I haven’t stitched anything from it yet.

Your Halloween witch is coming along nicely, Jo! I'll enjoy seeing what books you have in your stitching library--I love just paging through mine from time to time :)

That book looks wonderful, and your stitching too. I love the effect from the variegated yarn.

That is a splendid dragon, I don't have that book but if I see it in a charity shop I won't be able to resist it. The variegation on that pumpkin was worth the effort.

I love the subtlety of the variation on the pumpkin, Jo.

I like the idea of doing your Hawk Run over 1. I've been leaning towards doing it on others, but for some reason never thought of it with these. It looks great.

Lovely stitching! The thread is perfect for the pumpkin.
This month I do have the book, but never stitched anything from it. I really wanna do the title dragon one day, though!

Surprise, surprise, I've got Crescent Moon Dragon too! It's much more intricate than anything I've attempted before, but it's so far down my list it may never get started... unless I'm still stitching when I'm 90! :)
