Zodiac SAL - Gemini

Welcome to the  Zodiac SAL.  I will be posting on the first Saturday of each month with information about that month's sign and a linky for anyone who wants to join in.  The linky will stay open until the end of the month.

Last month we had three people link up with me, please do visit them now if you missed their posts before:

Gemini, the Twins, is an Air sign ruled by Mercury and covers those born between 21st May and 21st June.

The brightest star in Gemini is Pollux, and the second-brightest is Castor.  In Greek mythology, Gemini was associated with the myth of Castor and Pollux, the children of Leda.  Pollux was the son of Zeus, who seduced Leda, while Castor was the son of Tyndareus, king of Sparta and Leda's husband.  When Castor died, because he was mortal, Pollux begged his father Zeus to give Castor immortality, and he did, by uniting them together in the heavens.

Gemini People - What they are like:
Gemini people can come across as clever and quick-witted, eager to dish out the juiciest pieces of news and happenings to their friends via text message and social media. And in case that’s not enough, they’ll probably send you a Snapchat story for good measure. Geminis love fast cars, trendy clothes and any wacky gadgets or games they can tinker around with. Part of the fun (and curse) of Gemini people is that you’re never quite sure which personality you’re going to experience. Will it be the vivacious, pun-dishing jokester, or the snarky, mean-spirited critic? But if you’re willing to see Fifty Shades of Gemini, they’ll color your life in thrilling ways!

Famous Gemini People & Celebrities:

Angelina Jolie, Kanye West, Colin Farrell, Prince, Johnny Depp, Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Ice Cube, Macklemore, Alanis Morissette, Fetty Wap, Kendrick Lamar, Iggy Azalea, Troye Sivan, North West, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Morgan Freeman, Blake Shelton, Kate Upton, Amy Schumer, John F. Kennedy, George Bush, Walt Whitman, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Joyce Carol Oates, Salmon Rushdie, George Orwell, Salvatore Ferragamo, Charlotte Olympia Dellal

For the stitching part of the SAL I have chosen a series of designs from the Donna Kooler book 365 Tiny Cross Stitch Designs. I am stitching them all on one piece of 32 count Millenium Blue fabric. Here is Gemini:

I have no idea what that is meant to be!  Just a wobbly II I think.  Probably my least favourite of all the blocks.

Here is the whole piece so far:

I am also stitching the Satsuma Street Zodiac and this month I picked up Libra which is my current WIP:

stitched on 28 count black evenweave

I stitched all the green vine today.  It would be nice to get this finished this month.  Not least because it's one less WIP for my Longest Day Marathon!

There are no Geminis in my immediate family and while I did stitch a birth sampler for twins many years ago, I did not keep a photo unfortunately.  I really regret not photographing all my early finishes.

So, let's hand over to you! This is the place for you to link up if you want to join in, please link to the actual blog post, not your blog homepage and include your name so we can see who has joined in.

Finally, The Longest Day Marathon will be taking place on Friday 22nd June this year.  The Longest Day is Thursday 21st but I have my Toddler Group and an afternoon tea for a friend's birthday that day.  I will be posting photos live on the IHSW Facebook page and then doing a recap post here.  If anyone wants to join me, either on the day or at the weekend that would be brilliant!  You can see how I did in previous years:

Great post, Jo!
Well, I never knew that!
Do you think your DK design might be two ladies heads, looking towards each other? Great stitching progress.
Love the HAED and Awesome designs!
I’ve never stitched a Zodiac design so can’t join in ..... but I can join the other club!, in that I’ve stitched a couple of birth samplers and never kept photos of them!
Look forward to seeing how you do on the longest day, but I’m not on Facebook, so, I’m glad you will be doing the recap.
Hugs,
Barbara xx

I may not be famous, but I AM a Gemini. :D I agree, that is a rather ugly block. I would have stitched twin poodles! HA!

I think the block is supposed to be two busts facing each other, the light and dark twins, or something. My oldest friend is a Gemini. Your sampler looks great so far!

Well my DD and I are both Geminis sadly, the description really doesn't sound like either of us, no trendy clothes here! I see Vickie is a Gemini. We do share very similar tastes in books!

Nothing like planning ahead and being organised! I can't join in but I think the Longest Day Marathon is one that I like seeing others participate in the most. :)

This Gemini stitching isn't my favorite too, strange way to show the sign II, I first saw a basket with a blue something! I'll post later but I will. xxx

Congrats on the nice finishes Jo. I'm thinking about joining you this year.

The Gemini really looks a bit strange, could be a lot of things, even busts of two people facing each other as someone mentioned in their comment.
I don't have Geminis in my family or among my friends.
That HAED looks fantastic, also the Awesome Pattern Studio one.
Looking forward to seeing your WIP stitching for the Longest Day Marathon.

I agree with the comments above, I think it's meant to be two faces looking inwards, but it's kind of vague
The Satsuma Street one is looking gorgeous, I really like them on the black

My dad is a Gemini and boy I agree with the part you never know what personality you will get. He can change so fast. I love him though. Great stitching. I have to see if I can join in for the SAL. I might be able to do it on the Thursday. I can't wait to see your progress.

My husband is a Gemini and he is nothing like the description of them at all - lol! I will be joining you for the Shortest Day version - and stitching on just one project - as June 21 is our Winter Solstice here downunder. Love your Satsuma Street Gemini - the colours do pop!

I agree that it looks like 2 ladies facing each other with some kind of beehiveish hairdo. It's weird as in most zodiac designs, Gemini is usually one of my favourite ones. But not this time. It still looks great though. Good luck with the longest day marathon. Unfortunately my wips are such big ones that to pull out all 56 in one day would mean I would be spending most of the time putting them on and off frames. That's the beauty of you being able to stitch in hand. Will watch your progress and cheer you one though!

Nice stitching but I agree, its a bit of a bleugh design.

I'm on the wobbly II side though I can see where it could be two uppity ladies haha. Shame it couldn't have more of the detail like the other signs have had. And that's a rather harsh description of poor Gemini... Maybe it's true though; they are kinda flighty! :D
