January WIPocalypse Introduction

WIPocalypse
WIPocalypse is hosted by Measi's Musings

Each month we have to share the projects we want to complete before the End Of The World.  Measi always gives us a topic to discuss too.

January - Introduce yourself, your projects, and any goals you have for the year

Since 2011 I have chosen a number of projects to focus on that year, starting with my "11 in '11" and increasing to "18 in '18" for this year.  For 2018 the list includes a number of SAL pieces which will be stitched each month for various SALs, some WIPs I really want to see finished, 6 new starts and two BAP long-term projects which will be my focus for the year.  Here are the first 12, all WIPs:

Project List:
  1. Dessins DHC - Bande des Dragons
  2. Lavender & Lace - Enchanted Alphabet
  3. Chatelaine Designs - Gardens of London
  4. Nora Corbett - Gathering Eggs
  5. Lyndisfarne - Discworld Map
  6. Just Nan - Summer in the Square
  7. Joan Elliott - Reading Fairy
  8. Donna Kooler - Zodiac
  9. Just Nan - Autumn Mouse in a House
  10. Jardin Prive - Happy Hallowe'en Night
  11. Dam Good Crafts - Dracula Book Cover
  12. Just Nan - 12 Days of Christmas
  13. Satsuma Street - Libra
  14. Satsuma Street - Aquarius
  15. Mrs Peggotty - Alice and Flamingo
  16. Bothy Threads - Alice in Wonderland
  17. Just Nan - Summer Typography
  18. Just Nan - Diamond Bouquet

New Starts for 2018:

So far this year I have been focused on Just Nan's 12 Days of Christmas which was my 12 Days of Stitchmas project.  Here is how it looked on Day 12:

I even completed Block 1 on the 12th Day:

The next day I dedicated to Hallowe'en stitching.  The theme for January on the blog is Winged Creatures and there are only a couple of very small ones on the design I'm stitching:

So I stitched the word "Night" too:

This is Jardin Prive's Happy Hallowe'en Night stitched on 32 count Cognac linen.

Today I had the first new start of the year, Mrs Peggotty's Alice & Flamingo.  This will be a SAL with Linda Stitching with my Furbabies who has already completed The Mad Hatter in this series.  It should be possible if I average 100 a day or 700 per week.  Here's what I have so far:

stitched on 25 count blue evenweave

I have already had to make some changes as the piece is charted over several pages and having got into a nice rhythm of stitching the brown zigzags I continued without the chart.  When I got to the right hand corner I realised that it was different to the left.  When I examined the chart I noticed that random bumps have an extra stitch which means that when you reach the far end, it isn't symmetrical.  I'm changing that so the design is symmetrical.  It's the same down the sides, the right and left are different and there are random wide bumps added in.  I will probably keep them as it affects the height of the piece but both sides will match.

There are approximately 500 stitches there.  I think I am going to struggle to do 700 a week but we shall see.

Finally, I will be continuing with the ever popular Blog Hops this year.  We will have Valentine's, Easter, the return of the Summer Postcard, Hallowe'en and the Advent Calendar.  All at the appropriate time of the year.  I will be posting about the Secret Stitching Sweethearts for Valentine's Day very soon so watch this space.

Cool projects! That Dracula Book Cover looks so dramatic on that fabric. Beautiful!

Lovely selection of designs for the year. Nice assortment to keep you focused.... no that you need that lol.

So many fun things to stitch. Looking forward to watching them grow.

Good luck with your 18 in '18. You've definitely got some lovely projects to keep you occupied.
And if it's any consolation, an asymmetrical border would bug me too! :)

Lots of great projects. I particularly love your Alice ones.

Oooh, you're going to work on that gorgeous dragon design in that beautiful rich red - yay! And another lovely 12 days - once again, I'm very enamored of that partridge. Um ... is that Alice with the flamingo *solid* coverage? (eek!)

Hello, nice to meet you, Mrs. Serendipitous Symmetrical Stitcher! (I'm so glad I'm not the only one bothered by lack of symmetry.) That image confused me at first glance; I thought it was some sort of cubism piece with Alice's hand flinging over her head. Can you manage 100 stitches during bath time, or at least enough of a chunk to make a dent to continue on after?

Glad to see Discworld in there woo!

Oh I love the Alice and flamingo one! I must say I fell in love with those designs when I saw Linda stitching the Mad Hatter... but I know my limitations so have not succumbed yet to buying one!! I shall enjoy watching you both stitch this one :) Good luck!
Hugs x

I am always impressed by how many projects people plan to stitch, my own list is much more modest. I am thinking of one new start each month, and if that gets finished then going back to a wip for the rest of the month. I think this will be manageable for me. I really like the colours in the little bit of Gathering Eggs that you have done, i have this chart tucked away somewhere. x

Good luck with all the new starts, all seem to be big projects. I'm loving the colors in 12 days of Christmas.

Oh, I like the Alice pieces. Will you be stitching the silhouette one on a funky fabric?

Great projects there Jo, following on from your wipocalypse facebook post - I did know 12 - yay go me! I figured if I said Just Nan often enough I'd get a few right!

You have one of MrsPeggottyArts' designs. I recently bought her Darcy and Elizabeth patterns. I really want to stitch them into cushions but my sister says no lol So I might turn them into a tote bag.

Busy lady! I like your new starts for the year especially the Alice ones. I'm planning to stitch I'm Late (another of the Bothy Threads Fairy tale series) for my Mum's 70th birthday later this year.

So many gorgeous projects in store for us in 2018, Jo! I especially look forward to seeing Gathering Eggs grow :)

Happiest of new years to you and your family!

Great projects for 2018! That Alice/Flamingo design is huge!

I think you and your zodiacs have sucked me into doing one as well. I'll be joining you guys for Aries, though I really enjoy watching the zodiac SAL from the sidelines otherwise.

And (as always), I'm especially excited about the Dracula book cover. I get my framed one back this coming weekend (woo!), but your fabric is just KILLING it.

I really like your list of 18 - a nice mix of WIPs and new starts and I bet you will be able to cross of quite a few during the year. I really like Mrs Pegotty's patterns and enjoyed watching Linda stitch the Mad Hatter last year - now if I will see this on your blog all year as well, I might have to visit her Etsy again some time!

Lovely selection of projects, you made great progress on the 12 Days and your spooky Stitch is cute, perfect fabric. My personal opinion is 700 Stitches / week on full coverage is a bit much but YMMV. Now I have to check out Mrs. Peggotty Etsy, thanks a bunch lol!

I would find it too daunting if I had so many projects planned for 2018, so I'm very impressed with your list for the year. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress on each of them.

Great list and I finally got mine up as well. Good luck to you and I might have had to rechart the bumps on Alice as well.

Great projects this year Jo. I really love the 12 days. You've already passed me up on Alice. I only have about 200 done. I will catch up in time. 5 Days in the hospital does put one behind on everything.

I love your list. My dd and I were admiring your hand dyed fabrics. Just lovely projects.

Wow! What a lovely selection- your needle is going to be smoking! Glad you could sort the unsymmetrical border out, it’s a nuisance when charts are like that isn’t it?! I was reminded tonight that cross stitch is meant to be a relaxing hobby not a constant brain drain! Hope you’re staying warm & get lots of stitchy time in this weekend,
Helen

What a beautiful collection, Jo. Adorable! Kisses, my friend.

Goodness Jo, what a lot of different projects and pretty designs. Alice and the Flamingo is a lovely pattern.. wondering where you find the time to do so much stitching

Bethan said...

A really great list of works - I, as always, look forward to seeing your stitching. I can see why you have changed the pattern; it would drive me mad to not be symmetrical! x

I'm doing something similar this year. Picked 10 to rotate through and started one new one. Crochet will be sprinkled between, but no set projects other than to reduce stash.

Oh yes, that's a great list and so nice to see the mosaic pictures with the projects. Everything looks very promising and there will be such a lot to look at here, as usual.
