The People Chose Birds

This SAL is all about what you want to see on the blog. Each month I ask for suggestions for themes and then put them up to the members of the IHSW Group on FB to vote for their choice. This is what they have chosen:

February - Birds
March - Spring
April - Blue

Birds of all shapes, sizes and colours are a really popular motif for stitching.  Even if you have never stitched an actual "Design of a Bird" the chances are there will be birds somewhere in your sampler stitching, your seasonal stitching, your ornaments etc.

They feature in Spring designs - bluebirds and Easter chicks, Summer designs - seagulls, Halloween designs - ravens and owls, Christmas designs - cardinals and robins.

Satsuma Street - Nest Egg

Madame Chantilly - On the Beach

Just Nan - Crowjackers

Blue Ribbon Designs - Woodsy Winter

And in my current obsession - 12 Days of Christmas designs!

Fun fact - if the design features all the numbered birds you will stitch 23 individual birds in the series.

JBW, Just Nan and Plum Street Samplers

This is probably the largest and least enjoyable bird I have ever stitched!  It was a commission for a friend, charted on a computer.  I did get paid for doing it but by the end I was combining symbols all over the place, the computer chose such similar shades that really were not necessary.

This is a smaller, more fun one I sort of designed myself:

Anna, the Stitch Bitch, challenged us to stitch the design on the right which is a freebie from Plum Street.  I wanted to add something so the design was true to me and chose the tattoo style bird and dagger on the left.  Then I made it into a pillow and sent it to Anna because I knew she would appreciate it.

I could go on for several more photos, there are just so many to choose from!   But now it's over to you.  All you have to do is make a post on the theme of Birds, mention The People's Choice SAL (you can copy the picture I used at the top of this post and in my side bar) and my blog.  Please link up using the URL of the actual blog post, not the home page of your blog.  I look forward to seeing what you all post.

Finally, I need your suggestions for the next poll.  Any thing, no matter how obscure, weird or random will go into the poll.  Keep the theme suggestions to a single word or two - so you could have Cats, or Green, or Holidays, or Warmth etc.  Really anything which could be illustrated in cross stitch.

Love seeing all the pieces. Your needle must be smoking. Nice job on them.

I could not imagine stitching that owl!! I would go blind or batty!! He is gorgeous though...I remember when you started with the Nest Egg, it is beautiful framed. You always have so much to share, your certainly inspiring with all you accomplish.

You're right, when you think about it birds appear in an awful lot of designs as little motifs. It's a good job I didn't include those in my post, otherwise I could have gone on forever!
Ahh, your 'love' for CG charts must have really been put to the test when you stitched the owl, and a huge owl at that! I hope your effort was fully appreciated. :)

Awesome birds Jo. I'm not really into stitching birds.

The Woodsy Winter is my favorite. I can't imagine how long it took to stitch the big owl! Nice collection of birds you have.

You have lots of lovely bird pieces - I am currently stitching two new ones from The Little Stitcher which I hope to get it finished before the end of February so that I can make the link in for this month's theme. I really like the Madam Chantilly piece.

Jo so much beautiful stitching .
Where do you store it all.
I know mine is allover the house I try and keep it tidy , in one box or bag .
By the end of the week I have to carry it all up stairs and start a new week again.
Have a lovely Sunday.

The Nest Egg design is really lovely with the framing and your Owl is amazing, but have been quite a challenge.

So much beautiful stitching! What an interesting fun fact about the number of birds in the 12 days of Christmas. I'm wondering now, how many birds have I stitched in my lifetime? LOL!! I do love the owl...even if you did a little combining in the end, you can't tell, he's spectacular!

Nest Egg with the framing is what I truly love Jo.

Lovely stitchings, your Halloween birds are always great and my favorite. I was surprised to find so many birds for this post in my pictures. I have ten geese to stitch in my game maybe I can exchange one for a drone - the "future robot game". xxx

I so enjoyed seeing all your bird stitching, Jo! Birds for all seasons! And what an amazing owl! I can't imagine how much time that must have taken... I may have to stitch that cute BRD Woodsy Winter piece--just look at all those cardinals :) Have a great week ahead ♥

Oh my goodness, that owl is simply amazing! Nest Egg is also so pretty!

Sorry, for some reason I thought I left a comment after I read your post. Then I moved on to read everyone else’s blogs.
I love all of your Just Nan and the 12 days of Christmas birds. I have noticed when creating a cross stitch from a scanned photo the computer does add a lot more colours than necessary.

It was so good to see spring in the first picture! I did not realise before how much I miss sunshine and fresh spring air- not that much further, I hope! Waiting for Easter and eggs to come :)

I hadn't thought about it but birds are a regular feature in our stitching even when they are not the focus of a piece. Well done on stitching the owl. The colours in tit look so similar to each other.

What a great theme, and what a great collection of birds. I am working on my post and will try to get it up tomorrow!

Ooh! I had an idea for a theme, if you haven't done this yet! Charms! Any piece where you added some charms to feature or in your decorative finish. And also I'm sure you've probably done bunnies but if not I think bunnies would be fun.

I still love your Nest Egg, so adorable! I don't remember seeing the Crowjacker, but I like them too. And that owl, so beautiful.
