Madame Muriel goes to the Far East...

... of England LOL!

Just a fly-by post today, Madame Muriel will be updating you all with her latest adventures and plans for her next destination.

Do other countries celebrate their extremities in this way?  Apart from Cape Horn I couldn't actually name a single other cardinal point in another country.  Whereas I expect most people will know Land's End and John O'Groats.  Or that just my Anglo-centrinicity coming out again?!!

  2. That is amazing, I was born in Norwich and had no idea Lowestoft is the Uk's most easterly point! Where have I been all these years!

Thank you Muriel and Muriel's Mummy!

  5. I've only visited one extreme directional point in the US: the southernmost point in the 48 contiguous states at Key West, FL, and they do have a marker there.

  6. The only reason I've ever heard of John O'Groats is that there was a restaurant in Los Angeles by that name. It wasn't Scottish.

If you check the wikipedia page for U.K. extreme points, you will find, as in the U.S., most of the places are in outlying out of the way areas. That is, Land's End and John O'Groats aren't actually the most extreme extremes.

  7. Fun pictures! I have no idea where Italy's extremes are... the southernmost point is probably a little rocky island in the Mediterranean which is further south than the northernmost point of Africa.

  8. I have an aunt in Lowestoft! I seem to remember we went to one in Wales many years ago with the kiddywinks were small?
