It's TUSAL time!
Here is my TUSAL jar with my current focus piece, Just Nan's Scream House:

Title: The Ultimate Joan Elliott Cross Stitch Collection
Author: Joan Elliott
Publisher: Future Publishing
ISBN: 9781858704012
This bookazine (a cross between a magazine and a book) came out as a Limited Edition and sold out very quickly. Copies started to exchange hands for large sums of money. Despite all the designs becoming available on Joan's website. Joan had been asked numerous times if it will be reprinted and says it was not a good experience and it won't be happening. She does offer all the charts herself and it's actually easier to stitch from her charts than the book as the spine tends to break if you press down too hard!
You can see from the Contents page just how varied the subject matter is. Obviously there are elegant ladies but there are also oriental designs, Christmas designs, traditional pictures and some sweet cards.
The back cover features nine different designs:
As well as the Green Goddess I used this book to create a special card for a friend:
We'd been stitching Round Robins together and joking about doing one which wasn't just faces. Someone had done Mermaid Tails and I suggested we do various feet for one! That was a joke but I thought the hands from the four seasonal fairies would make a nice card.
It definitely took some planning to get the placement just right. I never did stitch the feet...
Finally, there will be a Hallowe'en Trick or Treat Blog Hop as usual this year. I am sure you all know how it works but for those who need a reminder - here's a link to last year's
If you want to take part, just leave a comment here or email me if you are a "no reply" person. I need an email address for you to take part in this hop.
The hands are very effective what a lovely idea. Placement is always tricky when combining elements. Looking forward to the Halloween Hop. Although it feels funny not to be madly stitching to get ready this year having been surprisingly prepared. I may have to sew a second Halloween themed piece just to feel "normal"!
ReplyDeleteNice Halloween stitching and love the hand cards just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGreat book to. Enjoy your stitching .
Jo: Your Halloween design is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteOh my that Joan Elliot book is amazing.
The card you made is beautiful, what a lovely idea to do for a friend.

I'm way behind on my reading, but I knew I needed to start with you first!
ReplyDeleteLook at all those pretty orts, I love the Scream House.
What a great book. Yes, I would think the charts would be easier, especially if you need a working copy.
The hands you stitched together turned out so lovely, so much better than feet!
Please count me in for the Hop, it's the best time of year!
Your Halloween piece is looking so cute, Jo! Not sure if I'll do any Halloween stitching this year or not--maybe just a small pillow. Enjoy your weekend ♥
ReplyDeleteWhat a great focus piece, I'm very much looking forward to seeing some progress on this one!
ReplyDeleteHow glad you are to have this book, such a treasure! I have decided I'm giving up the hunt for this one and rather buy the single designs I actually want to stitch. But for doing something like your handy only card, it's perfect to have this big collection!
Love the Hands stitch. Reminds me of a Round Robin.
ReplyDeleteI actually had one of those books in my hand at Joanne's, but didn't know what I was holding at the time. I decided to hold off on purchasing it. Big mistake. Have been looking for a copy at a reasonable price ever since. I do have a stash of JE designs, but have not stitched a full one yet. Have stitched portions of her designs in a couple of Round Robins, but not a full design. Yet. I hope to remedy that this year.
Love all of your Halloween pieces and how you have them displayed.
