DUCJC 2015 Revisited

The CJC was a challenge invented by Debbie The SoCal Stitcher several years ago.  There were various levels of challenge:

CJC = Crazy January Challenge, one new start for the first 15 days of January
UCJC = Ultimate Crazy January Challenge, one new start for all 31 days of January
DUCJC = Debbie's Ultimate Crazy January Challenge, stitch 31 projects one per day for January
SDUCJC = Super Duper Ultimate Crazy January Challenge, 60 starts throughout January and February

I didn't really get involved with the challenge but did enjoy seeing all the starts on everyone's blog.  Debbie passed away very suddenly in 2014 and left a massive hole in the blogging community.  So the following year I decided to support her close friend and stitching accomplice Linda by taking part in the DUCJC - 31 projects.  So that way I could use WIPs and not have a tonne of new starts.

Rachel reminded me of the challenge recently which got me thinking - how many did I actually finish?  So, as today is Debbie's Birthday I thought it was a good opportunity to do a recap and see what happened to the 31 in the last 4.5 years.

They are listed in the order I stitched them in January 2015:

So have you been keeping count?  How many did I finish?

A massive 17 were finished in 2015
Another 9 in 2016 and 2 more in 2017.
All except 2 of those have been fully finished.

So that just leaves 2 which are WIPs (Little Snapdragon and Joan Elliott's Face) and 1 which is a UFO.  I started the Shepherd's Bush designs for She Tends without thinking that the charts calls for very specific charms which are an integral part of the design.  I can't get the charms!  So it is on hiatus until I decide what to do instead.

It was a good challenge and one I enjoyed.  I have done multiple projects months since then for Stitch Maynia but now I stick to smalls like my series of Just Nan ornaments.

Finally, the Summer Postcard Challenge is starting very soon, keep your eyes peeled for the first card on it's way.

  3. Jo, that is so impressive. I am such a slacker about fully finishing things you have done a remarkable job. I have that Book of Spells chart. Seeing yours has made me think I just might get that one going soon.

  6. Well done Jo! Well done. I hate to have pieces that I have finished cross stitching, but just leave them sit and not fully finish!

  7. I'm sorry to say I never met Deb. I did take part in a couple of her challenges (egged on by a few friends of mine who only told me the rules, I didn't know where the challenges had originated). I'll have to go back and see which ones I finished, I know I still have quite a few unfinished though I'm trying to work them into some kind of rotation. I'm inspired to see how many you have finished!! Well done!! They all look amazing of course, you are a phenomenal stitcher! Sorry I've been such a slacker, hopefully life will slow down a tad and I'll be able to participate more!

  8. I can't believe it's been so long since Debbie passed...hers was the first 'forever quiet' blog in my reading list (but sadly, not the last).
You did very well with your challenge, finishing almost everything! It was fun to take a little trip back through the past few years on your blog.

  9. Wow! I had no idea you have completed so many. That's fantastic. I'm sure I'm no where near this many completed. I'm hoping to get a post up about mine too....maybe today. Lovely update. Debbie would be so happy to see all the beautiful stitching we've all done in her name wouldn't she? I miss her wonderful comments on every single post.

  10. I still think of Debbie often and was particularly sad about it when her birthday popped up in my facebook feed. It probably says something about her impact in my life when I actually feel sadder thinking about Debbie passing than I do my dad who died the same year (I think!) Or maybe it says more about my relationship with my dad...lol.

There are some amazing designs there and it was brilliant to see how many you have finished too. I won't be doing the same as my list will probably be the reverse of yours. There are 2 designs I have though that I keep thinking about working on that were inspired by Debbie - do you remember Universal Unity with all the animals? And Halloween House?

  12. Hi Jo
I think that some of the charms (couldn’t work out all of them) are still listed on the Shepherds Bush website under Silver Charms - hope you manage to find them.
I enjoy reading your blog - thanks

  14. You certainly rose to those challenges! How fantastic that you managed to finish almost all of these beautiful projects.

I think of Debbie often, she was such a generous stitcher and had so many wonderful WIPs.

  15. Oh my, look at all those fantastic finishes! You know I especially love all the dragons and Halloween!

  16. Wow Jo, I think you have finished the most projects amongst the stitchers who participated in these challenges. I specially like the variety of projects .
I'm curious:what do you do of the patterns you have finished stitching?

  17. That was a wonderful trip down memory lane and I have to feel quite smug that my guess at your number of finishes wasn't too far off either (shows I pay attention to your posts!)
I'm so glad that my recap encouraged you to revisit your 31 projects and that, from your comments, others have been inspired by your post to do the same. I'd only been blogging a few months before Debbie passed away but she very obviously, but quietly, lives on in people's memories and stitching.
Here's to you finishing and/or fully finishing the remainder of those 31 projects, and finding the illusive charm you need. :)
