Welcome to the May Gifted Gorgeousness link-up. The link-up date continues to be the 15th and I will keep the link-up open until the end of each month so you have plenty of time if you are late posting.
The format remains exactly the same, there is a list of rules on the main sign-up page if you want to check what is required but basically anything connected to the word "gift" is allowed, whether it was a gift TO you or is a gift FROM you.
My main project for Gifted Gorgeousness has been my Discworld Mappe by Lyndisfarne Designs, which will be a gift for my son. This is where I left off last GG post:
This is where it was at the end of April:
Here is the portion I have been working on this week:
The turtle flipper is huge, it starts on page 2 and continues through page 3 and into page 4. I decided to get all the dark green on pages 2 and 3 done plus the little banner. When I came to fill in the medium green I realised I had made an error. There is a two line overlap on the charts but I had stitched those two lines twice!
You can possibly see the two lines where the brown thread comes out of the backstitch? I was not going to frog and restitch all that banner again so I decided to stitch the backstitch of the edge of the Disc in one strand to see how bad the problem was. I stitched the backstitch accurately as it follows the curve of the Disc. This means the banner is two rows lower than charted and the flipper pattern is two rows lower. But with very little tweaking it works. I removed two rows from the flipper before the bottom of page 3 which is where the backstitch line stops and it's all good for page 4 now.
Now I have done more of the fill-in medium green I am stitching the second strand of backstitch. I decided to make the perimeter of the Disc two strands to make it bolder than the one strand used everywhere else.
stitched on 35 count Vintage Country Mocha linen
I fully finished two Easter themed designs. Nest Egg by Satsuma Street was stitched on gifted fabric from Tiffany and the Daffodil Egg chart was a gift from Riona:
Now it is your turn to show us your Gifted Gorgeousness for the month. Please use your name or your blog name in the field and NOT the words "May Update" so I can easily see who has linked up this month. And link to the actual post, not just your blog. It is easier if you copy and paste the link, rather than typing freehand.

Good save on the miscount! It's looking fabulous
ReplyDeleteThat was a genius bit of adjusting Jo :-)
ReplyDeleteWell done on fudging the problem, no one would have noticed if you hadn't said. Loving the grass on the Easter frame, that really does look sweet.
ReplyDeleteGood progress...love the little girl.
ReplyDeleteLovely finish! Discworld Mappe is coming along nicely. I don't think anyone else would notice the stitch adjustment. The Nora Corbett design is sweet.
ReplyDeleteThat little egg gatherer is such a pretty girl! Very good job at adapting and not frogging. That is what I call creative thinking!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stitching. The Mappe is such an interesting project. It is going to be amazing when it's finished.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, you've got a lot stitched! I'm envious!! I just don't have as much time lately to stitch (and I'm afraid it shows as I'm losing my mind a lot lately haha) Great adjustment to your map. I just tell folks I'm making it uniquely mine! Your other pieces are just gorgeous!! Sadly I couldn't join in the maynia this year, maybe next year I'll have more time. Thanks again for hosting this fun challenge! Happy Stitching!
ReplyDeleteLove all your stitching , your little girl looks fab I need to put a little more stitching in on mine , your Easter display stitching looks wonderful .
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of your week .
I really enjoy seeing your updates on Gathering Eggs, it always looks so much better than the original pattern. x
ReplyDeleteNice progress on your Just Nan pieces Jo. The Disc Mappe looks great. Glad you didn't have to frog it.
ReplyDeleteLinda
Hey I finally got time to join in a blog SAL. So I'm linked up. Your mappe is looking great! Glad you were able to fix the oops. Looks great to me!
ReplyDeleteOh my! Page overlaps can be a real bother to stitch. I'm glad you managed to work things out! Your overall progress looks great.
ReplyDeleteWell done fixing the problem on Discworld, it’s looking amazing!
ReplyDeleteNice progress on all your other projects too.
(Apologies for my oops with the linkup)
Hugs,
Barbara xx
Love how your map grows. Nora Corbett looks lovely. xxx
ReplyDeleteThose overlaps are such a PITA, but I'm glad you made it work for you, it's looking good.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing Gathering Eggs come together, she is so adorable.
And the perfect finish for the Nest Egg!
Oh no! Your stomach must have lurched when you realised you error, but luckily it's such a large project your fudging isn't noticeable. Touch wood, I've never made such an error but then I always cut my multiple-page charts down to remove any overlap. Are you on schedule for finishing the Mappe? :)
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing worse than realizing you've made a mistake....no one can tell that you had to fudge it....and your secret is safe with me, I won't tell!
ReplyDeleteWonderful progress on all, Jo! That little girl is just turning into the cutest little thing :)
ReplyDeleteIf you ever decide to get rid of Mappe...I love it.
ReplyDeleteOh... that is so frustrating. I've had that happen with charts. Glad you were able to tweak without having to frog it all. Lovely finish too!
ReplyDeleteSafely linked up.
ReplyDeleteBummer about the error but tweaking things to get them to work anyway is kind of fun in its own way. It's especially unnoticeable on giant pieces, except for the stitcher of course haha.
You really seem to be flying on Discworld - looks fantastic and you worked out a fix that fits right in and didn't require tons of frogging - yay! Gathering Eggs is so adorable.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you were able to make an adjustment that worked on Discworld Mappe.
