The Lovely Lavish Alphabet League

It's the first Saturday of the month so it's time for detention!

"They only met online, but it changed their lives forever"

I think most of you know the lovely enigmatic Chiara who blogs at The Grey Tail?  We were chatting via email a while back and between us came up with the idea of an A-Z language challenge.  We batted some ideas around and are calling it the The Alphabet Club.  Chiara has the full details on that link but basically she will post a link-up post on the first Saturday of each month (Saturday being detention day in the film) reminding us of the month's letter and we will all link up with themed things, from stitching to designers and local customs.

L is for Lightning Bird from A Dark Alphabet designed by Julie and Becky's Note of Friendship blog.  "A mythological creature in South Africa the Lightning Bird is the size of a human, black and white in coloring and it summons thunder and lightning with  it's wings and talons.  It is associated with witchcraft and has quite an appetite for blood.  Sometimes it takes on the image of a young man to seduce women."

L is for Lace as shown in the Brooke's Book's Stitcher's Alphabet piece I am stitching for the Alphabet Club SAL:

stitched on 28 count afghan fabric.

L is for Ladies, both Joan Elliott and Nora Corbett are well know for their elegant ladies.  Here is one of Nora's Mirabilias - Lilly of the Woods.  I stitched this one for a Round Robin:

Can you spot the lady in this one?

Lady Scarlet's Christmas by Just Nan

And L is for Love. Double Love in this case:

I stitched the freebie from The Stitcherhood twice and flipped the border round to make a Double Love with two heart shaped buttons in the middle.

There are plenty of L designers in my Sidebar.  Lavender & Lace having the most finishes, thanks to all the freebie Angels:

(That's a Just Nan sneaked in at the top!)

Lizzie*Kate is not a designer I go out of my way to stitch but they do make a nice Travelling Pattern, three out of six were Travelling Patterns and the other three were Giveaway prizes.

The Little Stitcher is another favourite, here are her 12 Days of Christmas Designs plus Miss Santa:

On my list of WIPs and UFO I have Little Snap Dragon by Kustom Krafts:

and My Lovely Sewing Tools by Marie Suarez

This design came from The Gift of Stitching magazine

And now for some Lovely friends to go with the Lovely Sewing Tools:

(I have literally only just realised why she chose that title!)

*****************************************

Finally, I haven't mentioned it for a while, but I am hosting a Big Birthday Blog Hop in September.  I have a lot of people signed up already but still have space for a few more.  If you'd like to help me celebrate a Very Special Large Birthday please leave a comment or send me an email.

That is a LOT of "L"s. I've never heard of the Lightning Bird, but obviously appropriate for a Dark Alphabet. And a large number of beautiful finishes - thanks for sharing.

Lots of loveliness there Jo. The ladies are beautiful with the beading. I'm guessing lady Scarlett is the ladybird who is enjoying Christmas. That's a very sweet design.

Lovely, lovely, your L post. The ladies by the two designers that you mention make such a great appearance here. And there are so many designers starting with L in my stash, too. Absolutely great post, Jo.
