It's TUSAL time again! For those of you new to blogging, the TUSAL is a project run by Daffycat, click on the button on the right hand bar for more details.
I emptied the 2014 ORTS into a bag and intend to use them to stuff an ornie sometime this year. Here is the jar with just a few bits of fluff in the bottom, along with today's DUCJC project:
Gathering Honey by Jannlynn
Stitch from Stash is hosted by Mel from Epic Stitching
Essentially the idea behind Stitch from Stash is that we are limited to spending US$25 (or £15) per month. There are various exemptions (Birthday money, existing mag subs, clubs etc) but the idea is not to try and pervert the rules and to stitch some of that stash! I will be posting on or around the 20th of each month because that is when I get paid!
Mel allowed us a little break from SFS after the December check-in until the January sign-up but I was very good. I ordered two of Primitive Hare's lovely thread holders and the Hallowe'en Cubes for my Christmas presents. Due to a little mix-up in the emails I was sent the Christmas Cubes, so of course I had to re-order the Hallowe'en ones and pay for the Christmas ones. Can't just send them back, can we?

I'm using her to hold my black threads. The ghostie is currently in use on Elizabeth Shephard holding the green silk.
I also got framing vouchers for Christmas but not so much money as last year! I bought a sweet sheep design for Jacquie because I knew she would love it. Then I found out she'd been in hospital so it became a Get Well Soon present!
And that was it. I cancelled my subscription to World of Cross Stitching because I just wasn't that into the designs and they had increased it to over £10 every three issues. I'm keeping up with Cross Stitch Collection, partly because they keep featuring me in it! Since I was Blogger of the Month I was asked to contribute to an article on SALs which I did, along with Heather Stitching Lotus. I am also continuing with the Jodyri Threads of the Month club which is exempt too.
This is the part where I would show my new starts from stash but since I am doing the DUCJC everything has been a new starts from stash so I will just show the latest two:
Day 18 - Teresa Wentzler - You were Hatched
Stitched on 28 count lilac evenweave
Day 19 - Nora Corbett - Little Snowy Gray Cottage
Stitched on 32 count opal Blue Hydrangea by Crafty Kitten
Usually I would stitch all the DMC before starting the Kreinik but this design is nearly all Kreinik! Acres of it so it's a large eyed-needle and short lenghs for me.
Finally, I will be hosting the annual Valentine's Day Blog Hop this year. See this post for more details. Just send me a photo of your lovely stitching to be sent to another blogger on Valentine's Day,
Well done on your zero spend! I think Cross Stitch Collection ought to start letting you have the magazine for free. It was lovely to see you and read more about you recently. Your new starts are lovely.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a zero total for the month! I don't have that kind of discipline. Your orts look nice and I love your new starts. The dragon is very pretty. Take care :-)
ReplyDeleteWell done on not spending anything, I too have been thinking about cancelling my WOXS sub, the patterns just don't seem as good anymore. Too many cutsie ones now for my liking.
ReplyDeleteYay for not spending money! I failed miserably. Very miserably. At least most of it was Christmas money. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour projects are fabulous, as always... I really really like the Nora Corbett cottage. So simple and cute. Can't wait to see it finished in all its sparkly goodness.
Jo, you are doing so well with the Stitch from Stash and you are becoming famous with your mag articles - well deserved as you are such a great stitcher and so innovative with your blog hops and just an all round nice person, too!
ReplyDeleteI used to subscribe to all the magazines as well, but my tastes change, as well as the magazines, so they ended up being something I would just flip through. I don't have any left...and now I go to Chapters, sit down with a stack of magazines and a vanilla bean latte and flip through them. If there's something in them that I must have, then I buy it. Usually around Christmas time.
ReplyDeleteLove your new starts. You ladies have sure done a wonderful thing carrying on the tradition with some AMAZING projects.
Cute designs I especially like Hatched.
ReplyDeleteWell done on not spending a bean. I have subs to WOXS and crazy and I can't remember the last time I stitched anything out of them.
ReplyDeleteLovely starts Jo. I sure hope I can use this as a free month for stitch from stash.
ReplyDeleteLinda
Good luck with your orts collecting - great starts :-)
ReplyDeleteWell done on not spending anything this month.
ReplyDeleteThe snow cottage will be super, but not sure I could cope with all that kreinik... eewwww
Congrats on your zeros pent month, and doing so well between the years as well! I love your new starts, You were hatched is incredibly cute :)
ReplyDeleteGood job with the spending! Love your two latest starts :D
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your zero spend
ReplyDeleteOoooh I love it when I see TW's in the works out there in the stitching world!!! Now that she's not designing any more you just don't see her pieces as much as you used to!!!
ReplyDeleteSpending zero is always a good thing for our wallets. And for our stash because there are so many many charts that are waiting for us, lol.
ReplyDeleteYou must be a well-known stitcher among the subscribers of these British magazines, just as well-known as you are among the bloggers. I don't have any subscription of any magazine, I just buy one when I see one - which is only when I get into a really big city or to the USA, lol. Having a subscription would have meant spending just the same amount for postage as for the magazine itself.
Love your new starts.
More great starts. Love the dragon. Does this one have lots of blended thread in it? The Castle killed me for that :(
ReplyDeleteGreat stitching projects.
ReplyDeleteLove the honey comb.
Catherine
Jo, you do so well with your stitch from stash, I am so impressed!
ReplyDeleteYay for no money spent! I'm not participating but I suppose I would've actually failed this time because I had to buy towels hah. I don't have any subscriptions though I have been lucky with a few thrift store finds (particularly Stoney Creek). Hard to convince myself to subscribe to something if I don't like every pattern every time! :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful starts!!
ReplyDeleteLove your new starts! Don't envy you all that Krienik stitching though!!
ReplyDeleteI too have stopped buying the UK mags.... They are very expensive by the time we get them here around $14-16 Aus.... Which is about 3 times the price you pay in the UK! I have also found that my tastes have changed as well so now I will only buy them if a particular design takes my fancy... :)
Hugs xx
