November Smalls SAL

ARACHNOPHOBIA WARNING -
THIS POST CONTAINS A SPIDER!!!!

The Smalls SAL is hosted by Stitching Lotus

I chose three different monthly themes to follow this year:

Hallowe'en Ornie SAL - 12 different themes
Little Stitcher Fairy Tale 12 Days of Christmas - one per month
Primitive Hare Spooky Countdown - one per week starting 31st January - finished!

The theme for the Hallowe'en SAL is Bugs, Insects or Spiders which gave me the perfect opportunity to start stitching this spider from JCS Sep/Oct 2014:

Jack-A-Rachnid by Tempting Tangles
stitched on 32 count linen from a Crafty Kitten grab bag

The Little Stitcher is now up to number 11, the Day of Finishing which I showed for the TUSAL post.  Here it is again:

I have made a decision about finishing this series.  I bought a small scrapbook which has exactly the right number of pages to mount these designs.  I bought some great scrapbook papers yesterday and will spend some happy hours cutting and sticking over the next few weeks.  The cover will be the design found in JCS this month of Miss Santa.

Speaking of JCS, they are a little bit cheeky about their renewals.  My subscription expires with the Mar/Apr issue.  So far I have received one written request to renew and one email.  Excuse me, it's still four months until I need to renew!  I wish they would let me pay by Direct Debit like the UK magazines do instead of a year in advance in one go.

I have had a great response to the Gifted Gorgeousness SAL.  Twenty stitchers including me have signed up already.  It's a very easy-going SAL.  Just sign in every 15th with Mr Linky if you have stitched anything you consider to be a piece of Gifted Gorgeousness.  Kaye asked if WIP photos are OK for the linky.  Of course, WIP photos are an important part of the SAL!  I don't know about anyone else but I feel more invested in someone's blog if they show regular progress pictures of their work.  It feels like you are stitching alongside them rather than just admiring the finished piece.  When it's been a big project I sometimes feel a little sad it is finished and we won't see another update!

Finally, the dates for the Advent Calendar have been sent out.  Watch out for the first post next week.

  1. You know what Jo? I never, ever thought of showing my work in progress on my big pieces in that way. How neat to feel more invested in someone's blog! I thought maybe people would be bored with it.

  2. AAAAGGGHHHHH!!!!
That's me running off screaming at your spider :D
They give me the willies.....during summer, with the rains, we often get one's bigger than my hand coming into the house!

  3. Love the spider! That is really a great pattern. I hear you on the magazines. I have one that I have started getting renewal notices for and the subscription isn't up until June of 2015. I know it will be here soon, but not that soon! Looking forward to seeing your 12-days scrapbook.

  4. Strangely enough, the spider is cute! Lol. I'm so glad to hear someone else likes to see WIPs of large projects. I love my massive pieces, but they do certainly take forever.
I'm so excited to start the SAL and to see what everyone else has done!

  5. All U.S. magazine subscriptions are 1-2 years paid upfront. You get a discount over the newsstand price that way.

  8. Love your warning. I hate spiders but if any spider can be cute I guess yours was haha. I look forward to seeing your scrapbook finish. I love posting WIP photos. It really helps to show how much progress you have made on a piece even when it feels like you haven't made any at all.

  11. I love the spider! I don't have a problem with spiders, it's creatures without legs that give me pause, snakes, slow-worms, slugs, that kind of thing.
Did I put my name in for the SAL yet? It sounds fun so long as I can bow out over the summer when we're busy

  14. The only spiders I can stand are the stitched ones - whereas I usually freak out when I see a real one, and how much I freak out just depends on its size, lol. Your little spider is a sweet one.

  15. Cute spider! I used to be terrified of them but I didn't want to pass the fear on to my boys so I tried really hard to be curious about them and now I can honestly say they don't bother me and besides they catch horrible flies!

I love what you said about WIP piccies, I feel exactly the same.

  16. I went back and forth on the spider...do I like it? Don't I like it? Then I came home one night and had one almost exactly like this weaving a web on the garage door! Ewwwww! I won't be stitching this one ;-D

  17. As a true-blue arachnophobe, my heart skips a beat every time I see anything spiderly, even stitching, though I'll admit the finished piece is gorgeous (I cannot stitch on anything but the most rudimentary of primitive spiders! lol).

And I agree regarding WIP progress. I love not only seeing the progress of others, but looking through my blog so I can see the progress. It keeps me much more motivated than having nothing but my memory.
