May WIPocalypse Shopping for Stash

WIPocalypse
WIPocalypse is hosted by Measi's Musings

Each month we have to share the projects we want to complete before the End Of The World.

Since 2011 I have chosen a number of projects to focus on that year, starting with my "11 in '11" and increasing to "19 in '19" for this year.  You can find the full list here.

This month I stitched on five of my list:

1. Enchanted Alphabet by Lavender & Lace

stitched on 32 count Murano in Tiger Lily from Sparklies

2. Discworld Mappe by Lyndisfarne Designs

stitched on 32 count Murano custom-dyed by Sparklies

3. Gathering Eggs by Nora Corbett

stitched on 35 count Vintage Country Mocha Linen

4. Summer Typography by Just Nan - Day 200 = 2,000 stitches!

stitched on 32 count Pink Linen

5. My Lovely Sewing Tools by Marie Suarez

stitched on 40 count White linen

Measi always gives us a topic to discuss too.

May – Where do you love to shop for stash?

What I'd like to say is - a little shop run by a woman and her mother, who stock a wide range of charts, fabrics and threads.  Who offer advice and have models on the walls and an exhibition space upstairs.  Unfortunately Hobbycraft opened up less than a mile away and stole all her trade.

Now I use a mixture of online stores trying to use places run by enthusiasts.  Lakeside Needlecraft is one of the first places I look, Kate is very helpful.  If she hasn't got what I need then SewandSo is the next port of call.  For hand-dyed fabrics, it's Crafty Kitten or Sparklies.  There is a small needlework shop about 10 miles away who supplies me with the latest Just Nan designs.

Two places I will never shop - Hobbycraft and Amazon.

At the moment I'm not really doing a lot of shopping anyway, thanks to Stitch From Stash and my lack of personal budget!  But when my Birthday rolls around I will be looking to buy a couple of charts.

Finally, here's a couple more photos from the Art Exhibition I went to.  Hope you like them.

Jo Your projects are looking great. I agree I refuse to shop Amazon. I try to buy in local stores (not just for stash)We are having alot of shops close because of the online stores putting them out. I like to try on clothes and shoes and not pick from a picture on the internet.

Those little pumpkins on Enchanted Alphabet always make me smile.
We used to have quite a few wool/needlework type shops locally, all gone now though :-(

Oooh, looks like the Diskworld Mappe is almost halfway done now!
I do love Lakeside. Sewandso has increased their shipping prices so much I can't really order small amounts there anymore.

That is always sad when a large corporation moves in and puts the smaller stores out of business. We have NO local needlework shops left and I live near a fairly large city. Very sad--I have to order everything online.

Love seeing your updates, Jo--and the exhibits look very interesting!

Hi Jo: This is a fun post, I shop wherever I find a good deal and is what I need, I live in a very small town and only get to the big shops once a month or less.
I love seeing the Art Exhibit.

All looking good, and all one month further along the stitching pipeline. Looks like the art exhibition contained a large variety of techniques. The little ships are adorable! :)

It's not as if Hobbycraft is even that good for needlework...
Great stitching and I love the pictures from the exhibition

Those scared-y cats on the Enchanted Alphabet are adorable! I love your girl gathering eggs, too. Great progress on Discworld and thanks for sharing the exhibit photos.... the little ships are cool and the big eye on the table (at least that's how I see it)... very interesting.
