May WIPocalypse Favourite Stores

WIPocalypse
WIPocalypse is hosted by Measi's Musings

Each month we have to share the projects we want to complete before the End Of The World.  For me, this will be my "18 in '18".  Many of them are part of SALs so I will be working on them each month.

This month I have stitched on 8 of the 18 projects.

1. Enchanted Alphabet by Lavender & Lace:

stitched on 32 count Murano in Tiger Lily by Sparklies

2. Discworld Mappe by Lyndisfarne Designs

stitched on 32 count Murano custom-dyed by Sparklies

3. Zodiac by Donna Kooler:

stitched on 32 count Millenium Blue linen

4. Happy Hallowe'en Night by Jardin Prive:

stitched on 32 count Cognac linen

5. 12 Days of Christmas by Just Nan:

stitched on 32 count Vintage Grain linen

6. Libra by Satsuma Street

stitched on 28 count black evenweave

7. Alice & Flamingo by Mrs Peggotty:

stitched over 1 on 25 count blue evenweave

8. Diamond Bouquet by Just Nan:

stitched on 28 count lilac evenweave

Measi always gives us a discussion topic:

May - where do you love to shop for stash?

Well, I'm doing Stitch from Stash for the fourth year so "My Stash Cupboard" should be my answer!

But you have to spend a little sometimes and looking back over the past year, the answer seems to be direct from the designer via Etsy.  The majority of my transactions have been PDF charts from designers such as Satsuma Street, Mrs Peggotty Arts and Jardin Prive.

Plain fabric usually comes from SewandSo and hand-dyed from Crafty Kitten and Sparklies.  I love both Dawn and Kate as well as their fabrics so I try to alternate purchases.  From Crafty Kitten I seem to buy more subtle fabrics and I go to Sparklies for the more vibrant fabrics.

I buy my DMC from Lakeside Needlecrafts as she is the cheapest place to buy genuine legal DMC.  I bought some from an eBay shop which turned out to be US imports sold illegally.  Other places buy cones and wind them onto bobbins (again illegal) so you have no idea if it's a full skein or even DMC!  Support your LNS and only buy the genuine skeins.

On the rare occasions I buy paper charts these days it will be SewandSo or Lakeside.

Finally the ongoing issue with email notifications for comments continues!  The work-around seems to be to comment yourself and tick the "notify me" button.  Then you get sent an email every time someone else comments.  BUT they all come from "no-reply" addresses so you still need to know the person's email to reply to them.  Also, if you moderate comments, you don't get the email until after you publish the comment!  We must be patient and wait for Blogger to fix this.

Wonderful progress on all of your great projects Jo. You are getting so much done on Alice. I hope to finish Cheshire Cat by Wednesday and than will start working like a mad person on Alice so I can catch up.

Great progress on Alice, her arms are so cute! The Halloween pieces look great and Libra on black is stunning.

This commenting thing is just potatoes. I hope they fix this AND the Yahoo thing that's been going on since forever.

I spy a turtle head! :D

I find it both appalling and amusing that there is a black market for embroidery floss! You'd think with DMC being French, y'all'd be awash with it for reasonable prices. Here I was scandalized when it went up to 52¢ a skein!

Great 8 stunner! As you know my favs are the Halloween ones but I have to give a special shout out for Zodiac. I love how these one is turning out. Very eye-catching. Alice and Flamingo is really starting to come to life now. Beautiful stitching on all of them too.

"Other places buy cones and wind them onto bobbins (again illegal) so you have no idea if it's a full skein or even DMC!" I didn't even know people actually did that :o I'm lucky that DMC is not very expensive here in Canada especially since Michaels opened. I must admit not buying very often, I have a huge stash that I bought on my visit to Morocco years ago

Okay, my favourites this month are:Enchanted Alphabet and Discworld Map. Since my LNS shut down, I am buying patterns increasingly online (I failed dismally at Stitch from Stash due to the closing down sale of the aforementioned LNS - lol!) and thankfully, I have a very full floss collection, so I am ok for floss at the moment but it is getting increasingly harder to buy from a bricks and mortar shop in Melbourne now.
Thanks for keeping us updated on the latest Blogger debacle, so good to know that you are on the case. Is it just me, or are you finding that there are fewer and fewer commenters, less regular posting going on and lots more lurkers out there?

Wow! These are all such wonderful WIPs, Jo--a lovely parade :) Hope blogger sorts out its latest problem. It's almost as though they don't want us to keep blogging!

Great work on everything! I don't get the commenting thing, it was actually working well I thought, but then no one asks me. ;) Love seeing the great A'tuin and just watched the 2009 Colour of Magic, that was fantastic! I had no idea that existed.

I love seeing your progress, especially on the spooky alphabet and Alice and the Flamingo! I agree that paying a tiny bit extra (when we even have to pay extra) to make sure that things are legit is SO important.

All your projects are growing so well, Jo! It was very interesting to read where you buy your fabric and cottons. Re the cottons- would you say the quality of the DMC you are buying from Lakeside Needlecrafts is equal to threads from, say your LNS? I may have said this before possibly, but some time ago I bought cottons through the post and I would say they didn’t cover the fabric to the same degree as the shop cottons. At the moment I can only buy Anchor cottons locally and they are over £1 each so I am considering ordering from Lakeside Needlecrafts if you think the quality is good.
What do you think?
Hugs,
Barbara xx

Working on 8/18 is great considering how many other projects you've been starting this month. They all look fab! :)

Amazing progress on your 8 WIPs. I love the Enchanted Alphabet, you are so creative with it.
Interesting to see where you buy your new stash - in case you need something. Stitching from stash is always a good thing particularly when your stash is really big. I also stitch from stash most of the time but sometimes I come across a chart I just must have, lol. But who doesn't know that feeling.

Great progress again this month! Good to know that Lakeside sells the 'legal' EU DMC. I don't think I ever checked since I'm used to getting the US stuff from all kinds of stores, EU or not. On that note, as far as I recall, it only says 'Only for sale outside the EU', right? Does that mean DMC will become cheaper for you UK people once you're out of the EU?

All your projects are wonderful - as always!
